The park is vast with over 3,800 acres in two counties connected by the Deception Pass Bridge.
The Bridge
It’s hard to imagine Deception Pass without the bridge. But until 1935, the gap between Fidalgo Island and Whidbey Island could only be crossed by boat.
From 1924 until the completion of the bridge, a small ferry called the Deception Pass ran between Yokeko Point and Hoypus Point. The ferry was owned and operated by Berte Olson, who was the first female ferry captain in the state of Washington. …continue reading
Pass Island
Pass Island is the most visited island in the park, simply because Highway 20 crosses it when connecting Fidalgo Island and Whidbey Island. …continue reading
Dugualla State Park
The land that is now Dugualla State Park was originally owned by the Department of Natural Resources as part of the School Lands Trust. In 1992 Washington State Parks acquired the 586 acre property to prevent it from being logged. Dugualla State Park is managed as a satellite of Deception Pass State Park in collaboration with Island County.
