Every summer, thousands of children attend youth programs at Deception Pass State Park. During programs, youth and their families are invited to discover the unique cultural and natural resources of the park through fun, interactive demonstrations and games. Depending on the program, youth might become Wildlife Detectives, discover the amazing adaptions of Great Blue Herons, or meet one of our gentle giants of the sea. Programs typically last 30 minutes and are offered throughout the summer.
For families staying in the park for an extended period of time, Deception Pass State Park is also proud to offer Washington State Park’s Junior Ranger Booklet. Designed for youth 4 and up, this self-guided program encourages families to learn together through the concept of Play, Learn, and Protect. Youth complete a series of activities to earn their Junior Ranger badge. Activities are designed to be fun and engaging and allow for families to explore the park on their own schedule or time frame. Junior Ranger booklets can be picked up at the Park Office along 41020 State Route 20, the Welcome Station at the main entrance, or at any program.
The Deception Pass Park Foundation is a proud sponsor of the Deception Pass State Park’s youth programs. We have helped to support the programs by:
- Providing interpretive staffing and volunteers
- Purchasing educational supplies
