Volunteering is fun and rewarding at Deception Pass State Park! There are many opportunities to get involved and make a difference.
Our ongoing projects are often looking for new volunteers:
Foundation Board: Work with a great group of people who also care for and support this great resource. Deception Pass Park Foundation works with Deception Pass State Park to identify places and projects where the foundation’s effective mix of private philanthropy, volunteerism, and strong partnerships will most benefit the park’s critical needs.
Lake Store: On Fridays in March, join us for “tagging parties” where we will fold and tag merchandise for the Lake Store. During the summer, looking for volunteers to greet customers, organize, restock shelves and if possible, assist with loading ice and firewood. Ideally looking for a once-a-week commitment during the weekdays. The Lake Store is open every summer at the Cranberry Lake Campgrounds and will offer refreshments, souvenirs and fun t-shirts and hoodies.
Adopt-A-Trail: Patrol and maintain your favorite trail at least once a month during the adoption year. Pick up litter along the trail, clear trail of small debris and encroaching vegetation with the use of hand tools and report any downed trees, vandalism, or other problems to the coordinator. Great for visitors who frequent the park and are looking for ways to support their favorite areas!
Adopt-A-Bed: Pick your favorite flower bed in the park to help maintain! Asking for a 4 hours/month commitment during the calendar year.
Campground Cleanup: Work parties that focus on maintaining the campgrounds during the off-season. Please join us in tidying up after the recent storms our area has experienced. This includes sweeping sites, moving tables and tree limbs. Once a week clean-up events, on Tuesdays and once a month events on Saturdays, from the end of January to April.
Reforestation: New project in the park focused on stream restoration, will be a multiple year project with possible random volunteer help needed to maintain the area. Keep an eye on our calendar for upcoming planting events!
Interpretive/Educational Program Assistant: Assist interpretive staff with programs or become a Beach Naturalist at the Tide Pools!
Special Events/Public Outreach: Looking for random ways to get involved in some park events? There are lots of ways to support the outreach efforts. The park also has special projects that need volunteers.
Check out our upcoming planned Volunteer Opportunities on our calendar.
